Small Groups

Our heart and hope here at Deer Lake is to see every person growing in their faith and love for Jesus, while experiencing vibrant, life-giving community.  We have found that this kind of community happens best in circles (small groups- facing each other, doing life, and learning together), rather than in rows.

GroupLife is the term we use to incorporate all our small groups, bible studies, and classes that meet on and off campus.  These are places in which people can ask questions, learn & process the truth of God’s Word, be encouraged and strengthened for everyday life, and build lasting friendships.

GroupLife - a place to belong, connect, and grow!  Find your group today.

Many of our groups follow the local school calendar - meeting regularly while school is in session and taking a break or doing things differently when school is not in session, so please look for updates that follow a similar timeline.

Truth Seekers | Wednesdays | 6:30pm | Sancturary

This group meets to watch a video and share learning and life on Wednesdays in the Sanctuary. Our new study, The Book of Galatians, begins April 3rd.

If someone asked you to explain the gospel, what would you say? What is the good news of the Christian faith? Writing to the Galatians, Paul made it clear how easily we can be tempted to turn toward fraudulent gospels, especially those that teach we can earn God’s love through our works. In this Book of the Bible series, Kyle Idleman dives into the book of Galatians, one that contains some of the clearest explanations of the gospel in the New Testament. Through biblical study and engaging lessons, Kyle shows that true freedom is found in surrender, not self-dependence because our gospel is not one based on our works, but faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Wednesday Evening Bible Study | Wednesdays | 6:30pm | Rm 209

New Study begins April 3rd. It's easy to fall into one of two extremes when it comes to Christian healing: outright skepticism on one side and abuse on the other. Many of us have a lot of good and difficult questions:

  • What is a Christian healing ministry supposed to look like?
  • How do we go about it?
  • What forms and expressions should it take, and how do we evaluate it?
  • How do we determine whether the healing ministry we are involved in is in keeping with what Jesus intended?

Starting from the assumption that Jesus does heal in our day and age, Follow the Healer seeks to answer these questions with a balanced, pastoral, and scriptural approach. This is a call to help you better understand and minister God’s healing to a world that is in so much pain.

Thursday Morning Bible Study | Thursdays | 9:15am | Gathering Hall

A multi-generational Bible study engaging women in the Word of God while providing practical application.  The group meets on Thursday mornings during the school year, August to May, following the school calendar.  Our new study begins March 7th.  The Miracles of Jesus explores all four Gospels with teachings from Jennie Allen, Bianca Juárez Olthoff, Jada Edwards, and Sadie Robertson.  Discover the ways Jesus healed, provided for, calmed, and resurrected the people he encountered.  This seven-session study is about believing in the power of God who can accomplish anything.  There’s nothing too big or too small for us to bring to him.  Book cost is $5.

Sunday Morning | Sundays | 9am | Rm 205

Utilizing NT Wright's series on the Gospel of John, participants will realize that nothing in John's Gospel is there by accident. All the details in John are designed ultimately to come together. In this study, we discover the clues John gives that we might see even more the reality of who Jesus is, the new creation he inaugurates, and the difference that all makes.

This is an ongoing class.

Wednesday Evening | Wednesdays | 6:30pm | Rm 204 & Zoom

Whether you’re brand new to Deer Lake or have attended for many years, this ongoing Bible study provides a space where men can gather, get to know each other, and discover their next faithful step in their spiritual journey.  Beginning January 17th, this group will be studying "The Epic of Eden: Isaiah" by Dr. Sandra Richter.

Often named the fifth gospel, the book of the prophet Isaiah has more to say about Israel’s coming Messiah than any other Old Testament book.  Brilliant, courageous, uncompromising, this prophet declared that the year of the LORD had come and God’s people needed to either step up, or stand down. Indeed, when Isaiah spoke, kings trembled.

But too often, when Isaiah speaks today, God’s people have trouble hearing.  Why?  We often miss the larger context.  In The Epic of Eden: Isaiah, Dr. Sandra Richter takes participants back to the eighth century BCE.  This study explains Israel’s religion and economy, explores the definition and role of the prophets, and helps us to apply the message of this great champion of the faith to our lives today.
